Michael Springer was first admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland as a barrister in June 2003, having trained under Terry O’Gorman AM at Robertson O’Gorman Solicitors in Brisbane. Prior to working at Robertson O’Gorman Michael worked for Legal Aid Queensland, as well as for Witheriff Nyst at Southport. Michael’s name was subsequently entered on the Register of Practitioners in the High Court of Australia in 2005.

At Robertson O’Gorman Michael worked on many complex criminal defence trials. In 2005 he instructed Bret Walker SC and the late Neil ‘Kelly’ Macgroarty in the successful High Court of Australia appeal of Stevens v The Queen [2005] HCA 65; 227 CLR 319; 222 ALR 40. Indeed, Michael’s first trial as a barrister was in July 2006 when he was junior to Kelly Macgroarty in the retrial of The Queen v Stevens, a trial which resulted in an acquittal of the accused.

Michael practised as a criminal defence barrister up until December 2010, successfully arguing many criminal trials on behalf of his clients. Michael then retrained in the civil field from January 2011 until January 2020, working as a solicitor at various Queensland law firms. During this time, he worked on numerous complex civil matters in commercial litigation and personal injuries.

In February 2020 Michael returned to practising the law as a barrister. Michael’s areas of expertise are:
